TwinCAT 3 Controller Redundancy provides an extension to enable redundant processing of TwinCAT 3 PLC programs on two industrial PCs and increases availability in the process.
From a software perspective, it integrates transparently into existing systems, as a redundant control can be configured at a later stage in just a few clicks. Once activated on both controls, these then monitor each other and can even take over the EtherCAT fieldbus – and therefore the communication to the machine I/O – if necessary. This redundant system also supports programming techniques familiar from PLCs, such as OnlineChange. The redundant system can be addressed transparently as a single system via the Automation Device Specification (ADS) protocol, which means that higher-level systems such as HMI or MES do not need to take the redundant design into account. A diagnostic interface is, of course, also available for monitoring the redundancy state.
