TwinCAT runtime for Linux® from Beckhoff

MC-type modules are computer modules for the Beckhoff MX-System. They have the hardware and software features of an industrial PC, coupled with the robust and IP67-protected MX housing design.

Together with the operating systems offered and the Beckhoff TwinCAT automation suite, MC modules form the central control element of an MX-System and function as EtherCAT masters for all other components in the system.

The MC9240-0000-1217 Ethernet controller is based on a 1.2 GHz Arm® Cortex®-A53 CPU with four cores and modern 64-bit architecture. The multi-core CPU allows PLC projects to be distributed across several cores in order to achieve significant performance gains.

The EtherCAT master function is implemented in the FPGA section and has an optimal connection to the CPU due to its latency-free characteristics. In addition to the EtherCAT master function, the FPGA hardware offers the capability of implementing other interfaces and technologies, such as an EtherCAT slave or a completely different fieldbus system.

Beckhoff RT Linux® is used as operating system.
