TwinCAT 3: Product news from Hannover Messe 2023

TwinCAT 3: Product news from Hannover Messe 2023

Autotuning represents the simple commissioning and optimization of servo axes in machines. At the push of a button, the servo drive determines all essential parameters of the application within seconds.

TwinCAT 3 Autotuning simplifies the commissioning of servo axes through automated interpretation of stability criteria and characteristics, especially for phase and amplitude. The iterative tuning procedure of the drive parameters facilitates the identification of the mechanics as well as the load inertia, controller parameters, and filter settings.

As a basic principle, the optimization of servo axes represents a central component of every machine commissioning process so that the parameters can be adapted to the application in the most appropriate way. The controller parameters of the servo drive are adjusted to the mechanics/application until an optimum setting for operation has been achieved. This process is time-consuming and sometimes requires extensive experience on the part of the commissioning personnel.

For many years now, the TwinCAT 3 Bode Plot has been helping commissioning engineers to find the right parameters for current, speed, and position controllers as quickly as possible using frequency analysis. A particularly noteworthy element is the speed control, which highlights the mechanical influences of the application. The ability to interpret stability criteria and characteristics recorded by the given stimulus, especially regarding phase and amplitude, is often something only drive experts with considerable experience can provide.

With TE5960 TwinCAT 3 Autotuning, optimizing drives is no longer the exclusive domain of experts. The iterative tuning procedure of the drive parameters facilitates the identification of the mechanics as well as the load inertia, controller parameters, and filter settings. The calculated parameters can be loaded directly into the servo drives via the TwinCAT 3 Drive Manager 2. In just a few seconds, the tuning process is complete, making this a much more efficient approach than the previous manual method. At the same time, experts can still rely on transparency, since the optimization results are displayed with amplitude and phase progression in the Bode plot graphic.
