The axis module contains the DC link and the inverter for supplying the motor. Depending on the required number of axes, the axis modules are mounted on the baseplate behind the DC link power supply unit thus forming a multi-axis servo system. Axis modules of different ratings can be combined to enable an optimized design of the individual axes.
The mains voltage range of the axis modules ranges from 100…480 V AC, so that the axis modules can be operated without restriction on any DC link power supply unit. This makes it easy to implement machine configurations for any type of mains supply. The electrical connection of the axis modules is made using the baseplate: it automatically connects the DC link, 24 V DC control voltage and communication via EtherCAT between the modules. The DC link connection enables the exchange of energy during acceleration and braking procedures, where the regenerative brake energy is primarily stored in the common DC link. If the energy exceeds the DC link capacity, it can be converted into heat by a braking resistor connected to the DC link power supply.
The MX-System includes functions of safe drive technology with TwinSAFE: The MD8103, MD8106, MD8112, MD8203 and MD8206 servo axis modules contain a programmable TwinSAFE Logic corresponding to an EL6910 and enable direct implementation of the safety application in the servo drive. The user has greater degrees of freedom in the implementation of safety applications in drive technology systems, and the flexibility in programming facilitates individual design of safe drive technology to suit the specific system. With the TwinSAFE axis modules with order option -0100 (STO/SS1), the safe drive functions STO and SS1 can be implemented. For TwinSAFE axis modules with the order option -0200 (Safe Motion), various internal and external drive signals are available for implementing an application-specific safety function. These can be interconnected as usual with the typical EL6910 pre-certified function blocks to form complex safe drive functions such as SLS, SLP, etc. Depending on the application, the safety-related information can be preprocessed directly in the drive so that the central TwinSAFE Logic only has to process the information that is aggregated there.
The TwinCAT 3 Drive Manager 2 serves as commissioning tool. Thanks to the structured design and the wide range of functions, commissioning of the axis is simple and intuitive.
