Cost transparency for machines and energy distribution systems

Energy is expensive and is a significant factor when it comes to calculating costs. The efficient use of energy in machines and buildings is therefore not only important due to legal requirements: transparent, end-to-end recording of energy data and grid quality reveals potential savings and provides valuable information for predictive maintenance. In addition, machines can be actively protected against the risks of fluctuating grid quality. With system-integrated energy data acquisition, Beckhoff brings transparency to the energy flows and carbon footprint of your production system.

Whether integrated into the control system as an EtherCAT Terminal, combined with the IoT coupler as a retrofit solution or as distributed power measurement in energy distribution systems, the extensive modular range of components from Beckhoff will meet your requirements. Distributed power measurement offers cost advantages, particularly in low-voltage main distribution boards (LVMDs) and machines with a large number of loads. Up to 6 current channels are recorded with a single EtherCAT Terminal and SCT current transformers and offset against the voltage values measured once in the system and distributed synchronously via EtherCAT.

In combination with IoT solutions and open communication standards such as OPC UA and MQTT, it opens up a whole new world of transparent, flexible, and cost-effective energy management.

The benefits of system-integrated energy and power measurement technology:

  • identify devices and machine modules with high consumption values
  • avoid costly load peaks through intelligent consumer management
  • prevent damage to machines due to insufficient grid quality
  • detect anomalies by comparing actual and target energy data
  • basic analysis with power quality factor (PQF) and relevant energy parameters
  • extended analysis of all voltage, current, and energy data, including harmonics
  • detailed analysis of transients with high measurement dynamics for maximum diagnostic depth
