By supporting all communication standards for building automation – from operating and monitoring, lighting, HVAC and facade control through to energy data collection – all functions can be integrated into the automation platform from Beckhoff. The universal, coordinated control system increases comfort levels for building users. In addition, the system-integrated nature of the platform delivers energy savings and reductions in investment and operating costs.
TwinCAT function blocks for building automation enable the automation of shade control, lighting, ventilation, in addition to heating and cooling according to the time of day and presence of occupants. This enables energy-saving room automation and enhanced comfort at the same time. Therefore, lighting correlates directly with facade control. An effective interconnection of the two disciplines is the optimal way to reduce energy consumption of lighting. The end goal is to use as much natural daylight as possible without glare, while still providing constant light intensity.
A building can be regulated on a time-dependent basis via integrated room automation in a variety of different operating modes. This especially reduces heating and cooling energy consumption during longer periods of absence. Nevertheless, the system must reach a comfortable temperature quickly during core occupancy hours and ensure good air quality at the same time.

At the Wiener Staatsoper, high-tech supports the creative work of the audio and video department
Salzgeber GmbH, AustriaThe renowned Vienna State Opera is considered one of the world’s leading opera houses. Around 300 performances with more than 60 different operas and ballets are scheduled each season. This is an enormous challenge for all the employees who work here in shifts, and for the stage technology, which has to function smoothly. To give visitors the best possible listening experience, the sound system has been upgraded using state-of-the-art audio technology and the audio control system has been entirely refurbished. The system requirements for the sound technology were high: in addition to perfect acoustics, it needed to provide optimized diagnostics options plus energy metering and the ability to visualize the system, especially the amplifiers. The system was brought to life by Viennese company Salzgeber GmbH, a specialist in planning and implementing high-tech audio and video systems, working closely with Beckhoff Austria.
