Impressions Automotive Testing Expo 2017

After three successful tradeshow days, the Automotive Testing Expo in Stuttgart came to a close on 22 June 2017. More than 300 exhibitors showcased current products and solutions in the fields of quality assurance, safety, reliability and durability for vehicles. The Beckhoff show presentation focussed on the new EtherCAT measurement modules, which enable the integration of high-end measurement technology for test bench systems directly into the PC-based control system. Another main focus was on the TwinCAT software and here in particular on the integration of the MATLAB®/Simulink® for greater efficiency in system simulation and controller or filter design.

The EtherCAT measurement modules open up new vistas in automotive test environments in terms of accuracy, value and time precision as well as synchronisation and long-term measuring accuracy that could only be implemented using cost-intensive special equipment up to now. Martin Podrouschek, Product Manager Fieldbus Systems comments: “The metal housing of the new modules has been optimised for measuring applications with respect to shielding and cooling and it offers greater flexibility on the interface level, e.g. for LEMO or BNC plug-in connectors. In addition, it is also makes the direct integration into the modular EtherCAT I/O terminal system possible. As a result, Beckhoff offers an end-to-end measurement chain, from sensor connection with a wide variety of different I/O modules in IP 20 and IP 67 right on up to the cloud connection integrated into the control system. As an established high-performance measurement technology bus, EtherCAT provides for quick and reliable data transmission. On-premises TwinCAT software integrates engineering, PLC, motion control, safety, visualisation, communication and measurement technology to create the basis for a universal measurement system architecture for data collection and analysis.”
